#3 Beemer?? :
Yes we're about to put some BMW parts in our Aermacchi H-D engine*.
This is what it all is about. the # for the BMW filter 11421337570 the one I used is an aftermarket filter # OX37 , Price 9 Euro. and there's 2 in a box, we need only 1 as you will see later on. |
First thing to do is take of the paper wrapping we
don't need this, it only restricts the oil flow. Also remove the plugs from the filter, the ones that connect it in the middle, the rubber ring that is on the other end should stay there and seal off the top. |
Then you have your stock drain plug darn the filter doesn't fit :-( the inside of the plug is 40.6 mm and the outside of the filter is 41.5 mm So some work has to be done. |
Some one with a Lathe can cut it out or as I did,
milled it with the one in the picture.
Took about half an hour, also sanded the inside and cleaned the plug . |
Make sure the filter has a snug fit into the plug so no oil can go underneath and the filter comes out as well as you have to change it. |
This is what it looks with the filter installed in an
empty case.
Before you can put in the new filter you have to
take out items #10 , # 13 and # 19
I don't know if the BMW filter will fit into #20 as I didn't try that. |
Here a set as available from
look at the standard parts page. |
these nice light weight plugs are from
7th item on the page. |
| *Note : applies to 4 stroke engines only |
And why do we want to install this oil filter ?
Did you already see item #1?
The stock filter (see drawing above) is too coarse.
So there will be lots of small parts floating around in your oil,
which is bad for the crankpin as we know by now.
These paper type filters give a 50% better result in filtering,
meaning more Km / Mls on the engine before the crankpin gets fouled again.
So lets ride 'm.
Thanks for listening,
Jack
