We are part of the de Leeuw family that emigrated to South Africa, and
my husband and I are now living in Australia. We have been able to trace
back our family line in South Africa to the first de Leeuw that arrived
in Cape Town. Now we are trying to link up to the family tree in the
Netherlands. The only information we have is:

Cornelis de Leeuw, married in 1742 to Rinse Vink in Amsterdam. He
arrived in 1753 in Cape Town with his wife and two young sons: Cornelis
and Johannes, approximately 9 and 8 years old. His occupation was
captain (skipper) of a tradeship (handelskip) called De Hector.
His wife died shortly after their arrival, and the two sons were sent
back to Amsterdam. We don't know anything more about them.

We would appreciate any information about Cornelis de Leeuw or his two
sons.

I will send the family tree for South Africa in the near future.

Regards
Mada de Leeuw

Jeff DeLeeuw, Wellington, family from Antwerpen (Belgium), came to the USA in 1955.
Father: Gustaaf de Leeuw, Grandfather: Petrus.

Beth de Leeuw, IOWA, aunt Sandy de Leeuw, who studied at Trinity Christian College in Palos Heights Il. together with my son Sander (1993-1994)

David J. DeLeeuw, New Jersey, father: Douglas J., uncles: Donald DeLeeuw (Colorado) and Brian DeLeeuw, New Jersey.
Dave knows a "Hooyman" girl in his school, who is related to the DeLeeuw family.

Tammy J. de Leeuw, California, send me this message:

"Ezekiel de Leeuw left papers behind when he left Holland in appr. 1920. Ezekiel was born (1900) and raised in Utrecht, Holland, where he was a member of the local football team, and he served some time in the Dutch army (rank unknown). He was a baker. When he came to the USA in the early 20's on Holland America Line, he settled in New York City, eventually marrying an American woman from New York and they had a son (my father-in-law).

Ezekiel's father DAVID was in the cattle business in Holland. Legend says that he was killed by a German bomb during WWII at the age of 100! Ezekiel's brother was JAAP and he stayed in Holland and became a wireless operator for Holland American Lines, where he worked all his life.

We also know that there were cousins who lived in Friesland and one of them owned a resort there. The most intriguing mystery to me is that DAVID had an uncle who was supposedly one of the richest industrialists in the Netherlands at that time. My father in law remembers that when he was small boy, Ezekiel returned to Holland to meet this uncle, who lived on a large estate. He thinks the first name was something like MOritz or Mauritz (Maurice?) but the uncle was maternal so the last name was NOT de Leeuw.

I do not think the family is Jewish- but perhaps they were religious reformed Christians , as the name Ezekiel is very Biblical in origin. Incidentally, at Ellis Island, USA, immigration thought that the name Ezekiel was ridiculous- so they changed it to JACK.

My name is Perry Lynn De Leeuw. I was born in Billings, Montana on May 1, 1959. I was raised on a ranch in Montana around Columbus, Montana. My Grandmothers name was Annie De Leeuw. My Grandfathers name was Jacob De Leeuw. The ranch still remains in the family. It is approximately 2400 acres(4 sections of land). They both came from the Netherlands. My Granfather was from lower Holland and my Grandmother was from upper Holland.(different dialects from what I understand). They both came over when they were 14 years of age. My Grandparents seperated in the mid 1930's.

My Grandfather went to Seattle, Wa according to my Grandmother. He passed away in the late 1940's according to her. We are not sure that this is true. We are interested in finding him and his family.

Their children:

Samuel " 1809 "
Hendrica 1812 Nieuwkoop married Israel David Kiek

Mary DeLeeuw from Michigan USA has send me this message:

I was born in Michigan as was my father and his father.
We go back to a Daniel Walings DeLeeuw, dates unknown.
He son would be my great great grandfather Waling Daniel DeLeeuw born 1796 in Oudkerk and married a Sijtske Haijes De Vries born 4 May 1793 in Leeuwarden.
I was looking over my genealogy and the DeLeeuws are from various places in the Netherland: Oudkerk, Hardegarijp.
My grandfather Charles Romkes DeLeeuw married a Mary Serena Haan of Grand Rapids Michigan. The Haans are from Hilversum.

Right now I am waiting for information on the Lubach family as my Grandmother Mary Serena Haan's mother was a Lubach but we are not sure where in the Netherlands they are from.

Information needed on my DeLeeuw family-listed is the direct line that I have (I am Mary DeLeeuw-William is my Dad etc). Mary's sister is Karen.
