Ancient Tibet booklet
5/4/2008 - On the famous Amsterdam bookmarket, I found a nice little Tibet booklet, dated april 10, 1959. Now, that can't be a coincidence! This booklet appeared 10 days after the Dalai Lama crossed the Indian border, on the run for the Chinese, but towards freedom.
Here you can have a look at some more pages (sorry, Dutch text only).

Dhamma Media Channel
1/13/2008 - I recently found DMC, the Dhamma Media Channel, a great Thai Buddhist website with a huge amount of streaming educational material, very suitable for self development. These programs teach Buddhist theory, explain Buddhist rituals and contain great meditation exercises with Ven. Somsak Piyaseelo (a very nice guy, by the way).

The Jain Flag and the swastika
12/2/2007 - While watching this splendid documentary Life of Buddha, I suddenly noticed a group of Jains waving their flag with a swastika on it! In fact, the swastika is a very ancient and religious symbol of the followers of Jainism. These hardcore Buddhists even cover their mouths to prevent insects from accidentally getting swallowed and killed. Now that is what I call non-violence! :-) Although Jainism is not the same as Buddhism, there are remarkable similarities between the two religions. |
