Support the Burmese people and Aung San Suu Kyi!
9/25/2007 - You can't have missed the striking and courageous actions of Burmese monks all over the country, protesting against the criminal government and even visiting Aung San Suu Kyi, who was placed under house arrest (and still is) in 1989. Follow the latest developments at Mizzima News or show your support at The US Campaign for Burma.(Note that in the Burmese Buddhist flag, they replaced the orange colour by the pink colour. You probably saw the monks waving these flags in the news). |

Imee Ooi
9/17/2007 - Imee Ooi is a Malaysian female composer who puts Buddhist chants and mantras to music in a modern way. This amazing, wonderful music really gives you the chills! The Mandarin version of the Heart Sutra and the Tibetan version of The Great Compassionate Mantra are my personal favorites. On her website you can hear lots of great samples. The shopping system seems to be down though.Edit: I was able to purchase some cd's safely at the White Tara Foundation, that, by the way, helps children in Asian countries with food, health and education. |

BBC's introduction to Buddhism
7/31/2007 - If you're looking for a real nice introduction to Buddhism, you may want to visit the Buddhism pages of the BBC. History, subdivisions, ethics, you name it, they are very well explained. Note that you will also find the Four Noble Truths audio files here!

Siyatha FM
7/15/2007 - Quite recently, I found a great, Sri Lankan, Buddhist radio station on the Internet, called Siyatha FM. Happy music, 24 hours a day for free! They plan to launch a TV station too! Read the story behind the station here.(They are still testing the network, so it may be offline every now and then) |

The Digha Nikaya
7/7/2007 - This week, I bought myself the Digha Nikaya, the (34) long discourses of the Buddha, the first of the five books of the Sutta Pitaka, which is one of the three pitakas of the Pali Canon. Will spend a part of the summer holidays on reading these classical Buddhist texts. Don't worry, there will be other forms of fun too! ;-)

The Malcolm Huxter Meditations
7/4/2007 - A few of the best guided meditation files I have ever listened to are those from the Australian clinical psychologist Malcolm Huxter. These are professional meditations and very pleasant to listen to. They help you to calm your body, to get rid of painful emotions and teach you mindfulness in many enjoyable forms. I've put them on my MP3-player, so now I can listen to them whenever I want. You can find and download the free files
here (scroll down a little bit). |

He Hua Temple
6/8/2007 - Today, I visited the Amsterdam Zeedijk to see the Kuan Yin Shrine of the He Hua temple, a Chinese Buddhist temple of the Pure Land school. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to see more of it, because the guided tours are only on saturdays. Kuan Yin, the "Chinese Bodhisattva of Compassion" is venerated by East Asian Buddhists. Click here for a big picture. I have found two nice documentaries on the He Hua temple. You can watch them here: |
