Free Hussars and Dragoons von Glasenapp

We’d like to introduce ourselves:

We are the Free Hussars of Joachim Reinhold von Glasenapp from Tegelen in the Netherlands.
You may wonder why such a regiment would have its roots in the Netherlands. This is because Tegelen used to be German and was appointed to the Netherlands in 1817. Tegelen with the castle “Holtmühle” is situated at the river “Meuse”. During that time it was an important connection with the city of Cologne.(Germany) So Tegelen was one of the furthest towns in the Friederizianish Kingdom. The castle mentioned before was beautifully restored and turned into a hotel. Many buildings still remain from the times of the Hussars.

The new regiment Free Hussars of von Glasenapp was started on the 4th of February 1996. There are now 7 Hussars. It is the escort of the Lord Mayor of Tegelen and Venlo.
They can frequently be seen at the castle Holtmühle in Tegelen and at traditional celebrations and Barok parties in Germany. Furhter more the relations with other militaristic Regiments in Limburg are excellent.

At the 9th historic garrison party at the fortress Regenstein near Blankenburg on the 29th of June 2003 the regiment won the first prize in complete and full uniform and equipment.
