Raccoon dogs date back 6 million years. They were there before humans. They have no relation whatsoever with raccoons, because those belong to the bear family (Procyonidae) and raccoon dogs belong to the dog family (Canidae). Still its latin name is "Nyctereutes procyonoides".
Raccoon dogs originate in NE-Siberia but the russians imported them into the Ukraine for fur trade. Some got away and they conquered the whole of mid Europe in half a century, and now they've reached the eastern parts of the Netherlands, where several thousands are living in the wild, and the numbers are rising!

Timur is a wild coloured male, born in Bielefeld in 1998

Timur can't bark, nor waggle his tail, and frolicking is beyond his understanding :(
Our husky Troy can bark and waggle his tail, and frolicking doesn't need understanding :)

We got white ones too and this is Misty. She was rejected by the father after birth, together with a male pup.

The male pup didn't drink and died. Troy plays father for Misty and he does really well, and so does she!

This is the real father. His name is Snowy. The mother's name is Tundra, she's behind Snowy.

Misty was born in a litter of four on april 25, 2003. One died. The two with the parents are white and wild coloured, but we don't know the gender because Snowy will attack if we get near!
Misty knows only Troy and two cats (vaguely) and she's not afraid of people. Soon she'll meet other dogs, but she can't bark or waggle her tail, and she smells different from a dog, so we're very curious. As soon as I've got new pictures, the story goes on.
