Operation red Falcon and Nightwatch are looking for team members.
Operation Red Falcon, an single and multy player HL mod which is looking to become one of the better mods for HL, is currently looking for new staff members. This is what is posted on the site:
ORF is moving straight forward towards the winter when we are going to release the first beta of Operation: Red Falcon.
Things are going well: the code is done to 65%, we have almost the complete number of maps we would like to release with the first beta, almost all the models are finished (only 2 view models are left to be done and the weapon world models), voice and weapon sounds are being made and we are coming along with the animations, too,
But unfortunately not as fast as we would like to. Blackjack is doing his best to finish all the weapon animations, but to speed it up and to have the first release out in time and to avoid any unexpected delays we are still looking for a talented weapon animator!
Your task will be to animate the ORF view weapon models. You will receive the ORF v-arms models which already have bones and a physique assignment. We will send you the v-weapon models and a description of the single animation sequences. You will work very closely with Blackjack, our Head Animator.
If you think, that you are the one we are looking for you can apply here: bigmomma@operationredfalcon.com. Please include some of your previous works.
So here is your chance to make yourself known, If you have the skills requested than mail them. For more information on the mod, go to the official site.
And also Nightwatch, yet again an HL mod in which you play one of the Military Security officers guarding Black Mesa during the Half-Life events, is looking for some new members, Nightwatch is looking for: Weapon animator, NPC/Character modeler/skinner/animator, texture artist, and sprite/particle artist. Interested parties should contact Andrew Weldon at aweldon@planethalflife.com
But also Halflife.org reports that they have some exclusive screenshots. And let me tell you those pictures look great. This is now also on my list of great mods. Besides the pictures there is also an great description of the story and features of the mod, here is part from it:
Half-Life: NightWatch puts the player into the shoes of Sgt. William Archer, a Black Mesa Military Security officer on night patrol near Sector C prior to the resonance cascade that takes place in Half-Life. Once the disaster takes place, Archer's story will break almost all links with the events of Half-Life, Opposing Force, and Blue Shift, taking him to numerous locations of Black Mesa never seen before. These include the gritty sub-bowels of Black Mesa, climate and weather-controlled environment labs, a hidden off-site weapons research facility, and a Black Ops forward observation post on the border world of Xen.

CS: CZ Sooner than thought?
CS Central reported that the release date on Amazon has changed from late march 2003 to February first 2003, If this change is real than Counter-Strike: Condition Zero is getting closer. I for one hope that the release is soon. And if you by now do not know what CS: CZ is (where were you for like ever??) then check out the CS: CZ Preview here on FMB.
JoltUSA has been opened. If you did not know Jolt is a collection of servers, a league, and a map depot based in England. And now they have expanded to the US under the name JoltUSA. For now there are only servers in the East, but that will change soon. The UK Jolt also has a great CS site which you can visit via this link. Now all USA residents can take advantage of the servers that Jolt provides.
MSNBC made an article about a 46 year old mother, now that is not really big and interesting news, but what she does is. She plays computer games such as Counter-Strike with her 13 year old son. Not an lot of moms do that, so the article is interesting stuff to read, which you can do here.

Valve Beta security is testing the Wallhack block and Half-Life Manager v0.32 BETA 3 is out.
CS Nation reports that Valve is now testing the Wallhack block with the BETA Valve Anti-Cheat modules. CS Nation recommends that you grab the new BETA server binaries before getting the new test VAC module. The instructions on how to get the Module are in the mail from Eric Smith, posted below: (This is, of course, a server-side only update.)
We've updated the beta security modules. These beta security modules will be testing the OpenGL-hack prevention methods we've been experimenting with.
1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.
2) The password for the beta security modules is still "vactest", so make sure you have...
-testmodule vactest
...in your command line and restart your server. If you're already running with the beta security module password in your command line, your server should update itself.
3) We haven't heard of any problems with the beta server we've released. If you haven't already downloaded/installed it, you should consider doing so. The beta version should fix the problems some servers have been experiencing when we update the security modules.
Let me know if you have any problems with the beta security modules and we'll look into them right away.
Thanks.

Valve released an new server beta. New thing added is an temporary new variable for admins, clockwindow. The variable is added for tests in an attempt to stop speed cheats. This is the full mail of Eric Smith to the HLDS mailing list, fully explaining what the new variable does:
We have a beta version of the Half-Life Server we'd like to begin testing. This beta version addresses the following issues:
* Fixed the problem where the Linux server would not update new security modules correctly, forcing a restart of the server in order for clients to be able to connect again.
* Fixed the problem with running multiple servers on the same machine and having them communicate properly with the Ban Master server. Servers now communicate with the Ban Master server on the server's game port (default is 27015).
* Added new cvar "clockwindow". This cvar is temporary. It's designed to combat the speed cheats being used in-game. The default value for this cvar is "0.5". We're very interested in how low you can get this value and not have your players "feel" any different while they're playing. Broadband clients shouldn't be affected by this cvar. Adjusting "clockwindow" should have a greater affect on modem clients. As you lower the value (0.3, 0.1, 0.01, etc.), modem clients' games should feel jittery. Adjusting "clockwindow" does not affect the server. Only clients will notice problems when the value starts to get too low. Please play with this cvar and report your results directly to me (mailto:erics@valvesoftware.com).

Two Natural Selection Movies.
Halflife.org reports that the Readyroom.org posted 2 ingame movies from the upcoming Half-Life mod Natural Selection. The movies show some action between the aliens of the game and the marines, there is no sound tho, but still you can get an nice impression of parts of the game and graphics. The aliens in the movies are: the Skulk and the Babbler. You can get the movies here at Fileplanet:
As with most big movies also making ofs appear. And this is no difference with the Militia2 movie. The Making of is great, very amusing, and it makes you wonder how they ever got the movie done?? Well for all Militia2 lovers it's great and an must see. But if you haven't seen it yet, then I suggest getting the movie first. And if you did not like the movie, then perhaps there is an chance that the humor of the making of will please you. Get Militia2 here, and download the making of right here.
Got Lag? posted a nice Counter-Strike History Quiz. Some easy and some harder questions can be found there. The question range from when was this item added, to who made that? If you think you know all about CS then go take this test right here. By the Way, my score was: 7 out of the 10, not to bad I think :P. If you did the test (and you did not cheat on it) then feel free to post your scores in the comments.
The beta testing of the new modules has successfully ended and the security modules that stop all current OGC and Joolz has gone public. All players caught with these hacks or other cheats will be banned from all secure servers for 24 hours and Valve is planning an longer ban time in the future. Still the Wallhack block is not yet implemented. Read the full mail of Eric Smith to the HLDS mailing list here:
*** This only affects Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers. ***
We've updated the public security modules again. These security modules should detect most versions of OGC and all versions of Joolz.

Turn around and you missed something.
This is normal in the world of Counter-Strike news, I just posted something and again I spotted more news on CS Nation. So here we go:
First of is n00binator made an nice article called "Counter-Teamwork?", the article is about team work in Counter-Strike, or better the lack of it. It is nice written and good to read. Here is part from it:
I couldnt stand playing in public servers where people would never listen to each other, the only conversation you would see is "My team sucks, its killing my score", "You bunch of n00b's you can't kill anyone". It got to a point even, where nobody on the terrorist side would take a bullet for the person with the bomb even bother to guard him. Or even a CT would not defuse a bomb because
"Hey you get no kill points"
And even worse,
"If you die trying, you get a death"
And NOBODY wants a bad record, RIGHT?
The article is over at klankarf.net, and you can read it all at the following link.
Next is: Want a War, but can't find an opponents?? Well then take an look here: A new IRC channel was put up called Practice Clan Wars. The location is irc.quakenet.eu.org, #findpcw. But what can you do there, well you can find other clans looking for an Scirm or an War. So if you are looking then try Practice Clan War.
Source: CS Nation. (And don't forget to read the other two posts of today :P)

Little VAC update and new things over at RE: TE.
VAC was updated an little while ago. The new Beta VAC Modules now detect Joolz and apparently all versions of OGC. The new modules are for Counter-Strike only and it does not affect Day of Defeat and this is only for servers using the beta security modules. Here is the information that Eric Smith sent to the HLDS mailing list:
We've updated the beta security modules. These beta security modules should detect all of the current versions of OGC and Joolz.
1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.
2) The password for the beta security modules is still "vactest", so make sure you have...
-testmodule vactest
...in your command line and restart your server. If you're already running with the beta security module password in your command line, your server should upate itself.
3) We haven't heard of any problems with the Linux beta server we released. If you haven't already downloaded/installed it, you should consider doing so. This beta version should fix the problems some servers have been experiencing when we update the security modules. The Win32 version *does not* seem to have the same problem.
All you need to do is download the file and replace your old one. It's always a good idea to back-up your old version first. Clients using 1.1.1.0/1.0.0.5 should not have any problems connecting to your server.
Let me know if you have any problems with the beta security modules and we'll look into them right away.

Let's hope that it is true that all of the OGC versions are detected, this is truely great work, GJ Valve.
Resident Evil: The Escape has again updated their site. This time bringing new game information in the form of updated monster info/pictures (of the Hunter, and Screamer)and also they have added some new monsters. First of all the fast moving Crimson Head, created by Vengence, based on a model by T0m. And then there is the Infected, they are slow, but powerful when in range. And I also found out why I still was not able to see the new look of their site, I was still using an old link. So here is the new link to the good new look: The Resident Evil: The Escape site.
No I have not yet finished the CS info pages, but I did got the chance to make some new FMB banners. The Banners from the Links section were from the first look, so I thought that it was time to make some new once in the style of the new look of FMB.
And here they are:
The animated one is some what lower quality than the static one, but that's because I can't export them at an higher quality at the moment. The old banners are also still available at the links section, so I you decide to link me, than you can now choose from 6 different banners, but text link is always an option.
Private Player, Rizzuz Helper and NS is moving again.
Private Players v0.30 has been released. Private Players is a server plug-in which allows server admins to decide which players can play on their CS server by simply entering the WonID of the players into a MySQL database. Version 0.30 allows admins to specify which players can connect to their servers, also admins can give priority to registered players, or specify how many known players must be connected to accept unregistered ones. And here is the changelog:
-added abilty to (de)activate p2 (p2_active cvar)
-added several working modes, set by p2_type cvar :
-0 : server will only accept known players
-1 : server will accept all players
if a known player connects when the server is full, the highest ping unknown player (if any) will be kicked
-2 : server will only accept unknown players when there are at least (cvar)p2_min known players
-3 : combination of types 1 & 2
*warning* one slot will be reserved for types 1 & 3 ; maximum number of players will be (cvar)maxplayers-1
-added ability to lock configuration after automatic load at map start (server rentals : write-protect config files, then prevent your customers from changing anything)
Basically, RzE's CS Helper is an updated VGUI that ties in directly to the HL/CS client. It lets you modify more settings than the VGUI would normally have and has a clean and simple alias binding functionality.
Basics
100% CS 1.5 compatible.
Quick and easy binding of aliases.
Reliable aliases, a modified version used by the Cyberathlete Professional League at 2 straight events.
Easy setup. The installer does all the work for you. None of your settings are changed.
Easy uninstall with .exe setup.
Designed with newbies, strong players, and pros in mind. Many players haven't discovered the benefits of aliases. Maybe it's time for you to discover them, or maybe it's time for you to move up to proven and simple code.
Brings aliases to users who have had no experience with them. Total transparency means that the aliases operate just as any other default CS command would.
While many scripting packages like to force developer, console, and even client settings onto you, with RzE's CS Helper all of your settings will be left in tact. The script is separated from autoexec.cfg and will never touch your variables unless you tell it to.
What does it really offer?
Buy weapons and equipment with the press of a key: no more b, 4, 2.
New controls: integrated duck-jump, duck-toggle, and walk-toggle.
Menus close more than 90% the time. Better than that old wait-and-pray method!
Ammo automatically bought with all weapons. Keeps embarrassing 'click moments' to a minimum.
new! - Ammo limiter makes sure that you don't buy too much ammo with specific weapons. For example, the Scout can have up to 90 rounds in cacheno one needs that much! With RzE's CS Helper you get 30 rounds and some saved cash.
Weapons are selected when you buy them, whether you have autoweaponselect on or off.
new! - Whenever you buy a weapon, the pistol is automatically put in your lastinv slot (aka "Last Used Weapon") so you never get caught off-guard.
Get rid of keyboard clutter: you only need to bind one key for team-specific weapons (e.g., the AK-47 and Colt M4A1 share the same key), one key for all the grenades, and only one key for all three radio menus using the radio cycler.
An updated VGUI lets you access all the RzE's CS Helper commands with the press of a single key.\
Always be up-to-date with an easy auto-update functionality. An easy name changer lets you change your name simply and quickly right from the VGUI, you don't even need the console!
Night Vision automatically activates after buying goggles.
The Natural Selection web site is again changing hosts. Apparently while changing hosts the staff of Natural Selection discovered that the new host was still not able to handle the traffic and usage of the site. According to Natural Selection many users were/are seeing errors when trying to access the forums, including the developers. Because of this the site is again moving to an new host, and this time the site will be hosted on an server in control by the Natural Selection team. And they say to expect smooth sailing in a couple days, as the DNS propagates again. And they are sorry for the downtime. This is only great news, stable site, stable download when the mod is released, can't wait.
Again one more thing, more IPs to HLTV for the CAL matches of tonight/today.

One great Guide to Counter-Strike.
Psychosis from SomethingAwful.com has written an great and very interesting guide to CS, called "The Amazing World of Counterstrike." It's not only great, but also very entertaining, read parts from it here:
Never buy a good weapon. The AW/M sniper rifle, automatic shotgun, MP5 sub machinegun, and any weapons capable of penetrating skin are shunned by all the skilled Counterstrike players. Attacking your enemy from a distance is cheap, attacking your enemy from behind is cheap, and aiming bullets towards an enemy's head will elicit a collective gasp of horror from the entire CS community and their immediate families. The only way to avoid offending the other players is tossing your starting pistol and charging directly at the enemy with a knife, out in the open, without strafing. Of course, you have to announce your presence to the enemy and attack directly from the front while crouching and spinning around in circles, otherwise it's just cheap.
Or what about this:
Flashbang grenade - Yet another magical item. When thrown, the flashbang will disappear in a puff of bizarre moving sprites that kind of resemble sparks. The instant this happens, every single person on your team will go blind for 10 seconds, and all the enemies will laugh at you and gun you down. It can actually work to your advantage, since after all your teammates go blind, they will all stop playing to type obscenities at you and you can use them as human shields.

Your Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers should update themselves

VAC updated, DE_Mornigstar released and news on Natural Selection.
First, VAC has been updated again, the new VAC module attempts to fix the errors that occur on a Linux server after an automatic VAC upgrade. The module, in addition with a beta server (http://files.valve-erc.com/ - login & pass: server_beta) should end the annoying bugs which causes problems for the clients after the upgrades.
Secondly: DE_Morningstar has been released by Blazeeer. The map is great in look, and it is also said to be great in gameplay. The map, as said above, is made by Blazeeer, great job. There were rumors that the map would be in the next version of CS (CS 1.6) but that is now unlikely because Valve does not seem to want any new non inhouse made maps in CS releases :( But what are you waiting for go get that map. And last: Natural Selection has updated their site again, with the news that they are going to change servers for the site, this means that there will be some downtime. The change is to make sure that the site stays up when the mod is released. (Which will cause lots of hits and downloads for the site) Also an other status report was posted:
Artwork: 95% done
Finished icon, death message sprites, weapons sprites. Redoing some alien animations and doing some heavy marine animations, assorted small miscellaneous tasks (console background, a couple animated sprites).
Business & legal: 100% done
The last items here won't hold up the release.
Coding: 96% done
Bug fixes, software compatibility, server performance, scripting Merkaba's tutorial map.
Design and balance: 97% done
Added droppable heavy armor and jetpacks, this is the last major change.
Maps: 98% done
Level 5 alien movement issues, occasional llama-proofing.
PR and community: 94% done
Web site move, PR blitz, trailer work. Much of this work will happen after gold, and won't hold up the release.
Sound design: 97% done
Finalize voice actor choices, post-processing on voices, the occasional weapon sound tweak.
World and manual: 93% done
Manual written and layout designed. Still needs proofing, feedback and final layout.
Website: 92% done
New website designed, need to update screenshots section. New ISP chosen, initiating move.
This is great, an news site server (better for the mod release) and also the work on the mod is nearing completion, I can't wait.
Gametiger is now called CSTiger, and also the URL of the great games search site has changed. No longer is it gametiger.com (although that still works to get there) it is now: http://www.cstiger.de/ The site still offers the search for players, servers, maps etc. but if you had some links to lets say and server (like on the IP page of FMB) than the links will not work anymore and you will need to update them, I will change the links on the IP page this week.

Blocking players form getting in your server and new RETE look.
Private Players v0.20 bhas been released. Private what? Well Private Players is a server add-on which allows admins to decide which players can play on their CS server by simply entering the WonID of the players into a MySQL database. Find out more right here. and here is the changelog:
v0.20 -- Sep 2002, 15
added file support instead of mysql database
added ip recognition instead of wonid
added users table preloading (in order to save from lags when players connect if MySQL and HL servers are not on the same LAN)
Resident Evil the Escape has also again changed the looks of their site. I myself can't see anything because the pictures will not load. (It might be my PC, but it could also be an little glitch in the site self) You can check out the new look, and read up on the mod right here.

Make your buyscripts online and VAC updated.
Some call it a cheat others just handy, but the fact is that you can make buyscripts to use in CS. And for those who do not know how or who do not want to take the time to learn and make them their self there is now an PHP scripted site (made by: Roy Teusink) that will make them for you. The site is nice, good explanation on what you must do. To check it out and to make some buyscrips go here.
VAC Beta Module was updated yesterday, Valve's Eric Smith sent this email to all the members of the HLDS mailing list (also including a reminder about the Linux server beta):
We've updated the beta security modules again. These beta security modules should fix the problems some Linux servers have been having with clients being able to reconnect after they have been kicked/banned by the security modules.
1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.
2) The password for the beta security modules is still "vactest", so make sure you have...
-testmodule vactest
...in your command line and restart your server. If you're already running with the beta security module password in your command line, your server should update itself.
3) We haven't heard of any problems with the Linux beta server we released earlier this week.
Thanks.

Also Eric Smith mentiones that this security module does not contain the wallhack code :( But still Valve is doing one hell of an job to stop cheats :D More on the wallhack block here on CS Nation. And as usual it is recommended that server admins restart their server(s).

Well look at this.
Yes as you can see the new look of FMB is online. The new look is faster (tested with modem: 22 seconds loading time, the old one: 42 seconds and higher.) And also the new look is easier to update for me.
But not only is the new look online, no it also made it possible for me to update the CS: CZ preview and add an article (small one for now, not much is known yet) about Counter-Strike on the X-Box.
Also the site site has gotten some small extra things like the time on the right and an small counter on the left bottom.
As you can see also an CS information part has been added, but that is not yet finished, I will make it as soon as possible. Also the server pages are not yet complete , but the reason for that is that the Omeg@ Clan is working hard on it and for now we do net yet have an server. Only the IP page is working, on this page you will find the IP's and server names of servers the Omeg@ clan members often play in.
Well some updates were already made, like the new news picture and the updated links section, so some not so new things.
It is possible that even more things will be added to the site, but for now, brows around and take an look at the new FMB.

Bye bye Ban and updated links pages.
First of all some very good news. The Ban on games in Greece has been rejected by the Greek Court. Read the article here, and here part from it:
The two internet cafe owners and an employee were charged after police found some of their customers playing online chess and the popular multiplayer game, Counter-Strike.
They could have been sent to jail for three months and faced fines of $4,950 each.
However, the court hearing the case has ruled the game ban as unconstitutional.
This is great news for all Greek people and of course CS players Lets hope that something like this does not happen again.
Secondly, I have updated the links page, there are now over 1 hundred links and also an new subcategory: Anti-Cheats and Blacklists. Also I have added an other option, if you can't find it in the links try searching some of the well know search engines on the web using the search option on the links page index.

The new VAC beta module is havinfg some problems, Valve's Eric Smith mailed the HLDS mailing list that they received reports of problems with the beta modules (the beta modules with the new wallhack block)
To temporairly get rid of the problems, while Valve is fixxing them. Valve replaced all the beta modules with copies of the seemingly more stable public modules. Only the severs running the beta module where updated, and it's recommended that the server admins restart their servers. This is the mail from Eric Smith:
Over the weekend, we had several reports about problems with the beta security modules. We've removed the beta security modules and replaced them
with copies of the current public security modules. If you were testing the beta security modules, your server should update itself (with the public security modules).
We appreciate all the feedback everyone sent us regarding the problems they
were having. We're currently working to resolve the problems. When we're ready, we'll roll out new beta security modules and send an e-mail with the details.

Yes capturing an falg in CS, DaveJ informed CS Nation that CS-CTF Alpha 4 has been released over on Planet Half-Life. CS-CTF is as the name says the feeling of Counter-Strike with the objective of capturing the enemy's flag. Each server can define its own flag points. The mod of a mod only works on Windows servers and is functional by updating your gamedll line in liblist.gam. Here's what the version features:
» Ability to create and save custom CTF layouts for any map.
» Full customisability of features, including in game messages.
» Optional classic CTF grapplehook.
» Ability to disable CounterStrikes own missions during CTF play.
Retro-CS version 2.6 has been released. Retro-CS is HL mod which attempts to simulate the beta versions of Counter-Strike. So what to get the old feeling back, or feel what it was like, then download the mod.
Valve is currently testing the new wallhackblock with the new beta security module, the new module is targeting the OpenGL Wallhacks. For more info on this new code, check out CS-Nation's preview of the technology. This is what Eric Smith tells about the new module and on how to activate it:
We've updated the beta security modules. These beta security modules should prevent all OpenGL wallhacks from working properly by not drawing players that shouldn't be seen. (more info)
1) This beta test is only for Counter-Strike servers...not Day of Defeat.
2) During this beta test, we *WILL NOT* be banning anyone detected using an OpenGL cheat ON SERVERS RUNNING THE BETA MODULES.
3) We want you to test these beta security modules and report any problems directly to us. We're especially interested in problems where players are not being drawn properly. These are situations where they *should* be visible to the player but aren't being drawn for some reason (they're invisible). If you find an area like this (even in a non-VALVe map), please send us as much detail as you can about how to reproduce the problem. A screenshot would also be very helpful so we can see where the problem is occurring.
You can report these problems directly to me
(mailto:erics@valvesoftware.com).
4) The password for the beta security modules is still "vactest", so make sure you have...
-testmodule vactest
...in your command line and restart your server. If you're already running with the beta security module password in your command line, your server should update itself. If you find your server is suddenly having problems try restarting it.
We think we've found the problem some servers have been experiencing when we update the security modules. When the fix is ready, we'll release it as a server update. We'll send more information when it's ready.
Let me know if you have any problems with these modules and we'll look into them right away.
Thanks.

Finland

This is going to an nice match, so if you get the change go watch it. And remember for the IP's keep checking ClanBase and UK Terrorist. And thanx to [Omeg@]Worldsp@wn for mentioning the news to me.
And now trouble on Nedgamez. This news is more for the Dutch visitors and visitors that can read Dutch for the full article is in Dutch. But the rest of this post will still be in English. New AFF flash strategy and an article about CS on NYT.
Farad from the French site AFF-Online, made an nice flash strategy to add to the flash strategy section. This time it's the map DE_Dust2. These strategies are really great, and worth checking out. Also Farad mentioned that the next map to go "Flash" will be CS_Militia. Use this link to go to the flash strategy page.
The New York times posted an article about CS . To view it you do need to register. (for free) It's mostly about LANs where CS is being played, and how they usually don't restrict ages. Here is part from the article:
Operators and owners of the game rooms counter that the responsibility of policing young players lies not with them but with the parents. And some operators -- like their customers -- say they either do not understand the rating system or do not take it seriously.
M rating "is like when the game Monopoly says it's for ages 7 and up -- it's just a suggestion." said a co-owner of Cyber Sniper, the arcade in San Francisco's Richmond district where Damien came to play. Like Monopoly, the games "are just toys," said the co-owner, who gave only his first name, Ricky, but declined to give a reason for not fully identifying himself.
The new law in Greece is looking more and more frightening.UK Terrorist reports that: Greek CS Players were Arrested. In an article of the BBC, was reported that 2 CS players from Greece are arrested for playing CS for fun. Here is part from the article:
"The first case of its kind will come before the Greek courts next week following the arrest of two people who allowed gamers to play the popular online game, Counter-Strike.
They face fines of 150,000 euros (£95,000) and up to 12 months imprisonment."
This law is not funny anymore, nor never was. I hope for all game loving Greek people that this law will be undone soon. I can not imagine that someone will have to go to jail for playing CS or any other computer game or game. Read the full article here.

VAC updated and HLirc detected as cheat??
Again the Valve Anti Cheat has been updated. This is what Valve's Eric Smith had to say:
We've updated the public security modules again. The new security modules address the following issues:
* Detection of OGC 10.1b, Joolz, and GoldFinger.
* Fixed secure-global bans not taking effect sometimes.
* Fixed secure-global banned players being allowed to connect to secure servers (sometimes).
We're no longer using port 27013 for the ban list. You will now see traffic (in/out) on port 27011. This traffic is to/from the ban list server. Make sure you have this port open in your firewall.
Your Counter-Strike and Day of Defeat servers should update themselves automatically. If you find your servers are suddenly having problems, try restarting them.
We think we've found the problem some servers have been experiencing when we update the security modules. When the fix is ready, we'll release it as a server update. We'll send more information when it's ready. Thanks for your patience.
Thanks.
Eric Smith
VALVe
Great work Valve, and as always it is recommended to restart your servers. But wait there is one more thing. The HLirc from Disk2 has confirmed of being detected by the new VAC beta security modules. Vavle first said that it should not be detected but it is. This is what Disk2 says on how to remove HLirc:
Yeah it is detected. When I released it the VAC didn't detect it, but the new beta does. And with the release of this VAC update I suppose it will be detected on all servers now.
To uninstall it just load mIRC, go to the Tools > Remote menu, then go to the View > HLirc.mrc menu, then go to the File > Unload menu.
Again, sorry about the confusion. I wasn't able to find the problem until some people at VALVe told me to try it with the VAC beta. I'd like to thank all those at VALVe that helped me figure out the problem. When Tracker is released it should include a plug-in system that will allow IRC chat, but for now no more chatting in-game.
Well no more cheats, at least for some time, but also no more irc chat during the game. And remember if you are using HLirc, remove it right now, otherwize you might be detected as an cheater.
More DE to CS, CS to DE, and such. And also De_Simpsons is here.
Okay, first of all, CS Central reports that the creator of the well known Chicken Plugin has made an great explanation on how to make the current maps like DE_Dust into another scenario. This means that you can now make DE mapsinto CS or AS maps and vice versa. Great thing, would like to blow up the radio in CS_Italy :P
Here is art from the article:
Summary: You can easily add or remove hostages and a rescue point, or a bombsite, a vip and a vip escape point, to any existing map. It's very easy, and you don't have to open the map up ("decompile") or know how to use a map editor. You can make all the changes with notepad, actually. When you are done, the new BSP goes on the server, and clients can play as long as they have the old version of the map. It will not affect their files - all the changes are on the server only.
As you can read all of the changes are server side, so the client does not have to change anything or download an new map. Admins that are want to try out new things, or if you just would like to save hostages in an dusty surrounding then read the full article here.
DE_Simpsons Released was released today. This map is nice, really brings out the Simpsons feeling. Soup did an great job and has released his DE_Simpsons, in this thread on the Counter-Strike forums. The map is downloadable from Soup's site in two versions: .exe or .zip format. And here are some pictures:

Match Mod, New IP Counter-Strike.nl server, Natural Selection going Steam and an different look at CPL.
MatchMod v0.90 was released. dJeyL released the latest version of MatchMod v0.90, a MetaMod plugin that will automatically handle all server tasks for a match. It starts the warm-up, waits for all the players, restarts rounds, then starts the real match. Everything for an match, really handy.
The MetaMod plugin comes in two versions:
The full version comes with a "PHP interface linked to a MySQL database that stores teams, matches, cvars, and scores and makes them available for public display".
The light version allows you to "get benefit from M4 in-game engine as a single MetaMod plugin, using a text config file instead of PHP + MySQL".
Because of complaints on the lag and high ping on the Counter-strike.nl public #1 server. Counter-Strike.nl decided to move the server, and therefor it now has an new IP address: 62.212.73.121:27015 , the second server still is: 130.89.168.55:27015 .
Counter-Strike.nl hopes that the problems are now solved, but if you still have problems with the server, you then should direct the problems and questions to:irc channel #counter-strike.nl on irc.quakenet.org.
After working with VALVe software, the NS Team can now announce that Natural Selection will be available on Steam! VALVe's Steam will allow easy and automatic updates for players with fast connections. For Steam-users, downloading patches, maps and new content will be a thing of the past.
It is important to note that Natural Selection will always be available in non-Steam form. Players will never have to pay for NS to play.
The Steam beta is publically available, and is currently allowing players to try Half-life, Day of Defeat, Counter-strike for free. Natural Selection is not available yet, but when it is, it will show up in Steam and you'll be able to play without even installing it.
The NS Team is excited about new gaming experiences possible with Steam technology, especially in creating a world that is constantly updated and network-aware...
Sounds great, also because Valve will insure that downloading game data and updates through Steam will be fast, really fast, so well Steam looks an lot more interesting day by day. More on Steam here.
An article on Applelinks gives a different perspective on the CPL than most of the articles recently. The article is called: Computer Users Need More Balls, an examines our society's need for sports and competition and applies it to the CPL. Here is part from it:
I guess that's the amusing part. As is indicated on the website, the CPL was launched to "...establish computer game competitions as a viable spectator sport." That's funny. That's very, very funny. Can you see Tommy Jackson and Stuart Scott on ESPN covering the big Unreal Tournament championship? Can you see 67,000 fans packed into the new Seahawks stadium to watch a couple guys play Half-Life or Jazz Jackrabbit 2? Move over, baseball, there's a new national pasttime in town!
On the other hand, as ridiculous as it is, the CPL does serve a purpose. It presents an entirely new kind of ball to an entirely different demographic. Not only are there a tremendous number of people out there who can't make a living playing with a ball (like myself) and who also aren't willing to pay to watch others play with it (unlike myself). Now, these people have a ball. They can practice on their own. They can go online and play with others across the globe. They can get really, really good and win a lot of money. I guess the money has to be there, actually, as the "getting laid" incentive is nowhere in site for those who excell only at computer games. Perhaps because they don't get to wear uniforms with the tight pants.
