"Art is either a plagiarist or a revolutionist."
Paul Gaugin

Many old Manics singles are extremely hard to come by, so hours of searching second hand record shops may be required (as if you needed the excuse!). Theme from M*A*S*H in particular has now been deleted (though is available on Greatest Hits '92). 'New Art Riot' appears to be periodically re-released by the record company Damaged Goods, (to prop up the rest of their label?). An alternative of course is to get hold of bootlegs, which often contain live or demo versions of 'unavailable' early songs. This file contains a list of the most common bootlegs around. Almost all are on CD (Lipstick Traces being an exception), however, there are quite a few unlisted ones around on tape.

Credit is due to Anthony Millard <anthony-millard@syntech.co.uk>. Without his almost scary devotion to record fairs, I would not have been able to compile this list.

If you find any others not listed here then please get in contact.

Lipstick Traces (Vinyl) Early Demos 1989-1990

Kilburn National (Cassette) 11th December 1992

Street Preaching (CD) Miscellaneous live appearances

[Described as 'OK'. I haven't heard it]

Tortured Genius (CD) Live Appearances, Demos and Rarities

[poor quality recording on some songs, but worth getting hold of for alternative lyrics etc.]

4 Real (CD) Live at Milton Keynes Bowl 1993 and Radio sessions

Turning Rebellion Into Money (CD) A collection of demos and rarities

[very good]

If You Want Blood (CD)

[Very good quality, and a stunning version of Faster from Glastonbury]

Phoenix Festival 1996

[The second concert is the same which appears on the "London 95 to Leeds 96" bootleg. Sond quality on both concerts are above average for a bootleg.]

London 95 to Leeds 96 bootleg CD.

[The Sound quality on the first concert is above average for a bootleg, however the Wembley concert is quite poor with the last track 'Motorcycle Emptiness' being cut off in the middle. (RITH is good though).]

Thirteen

The Return Of The Preachers.

(I have seen this is a different cover, it has the same concert as previously states but also has PCP from Glastonbury 94. - Anthony)
[Well worth buying. A full gig without the sweat and overpriced beer]

3 Real.

[Quality is very good, however this is the same concert as the London 95 to Leeds 96 bootleg and the second set off the Phoenix Festival bootleg. The last 4 tracks are just the new art riot e.p. If you want this concert then get the Phoenix Festival version as that concert is also excellent.]

No Sunset, Just Silence.

Soundbites

You Love Us (Live In Japan, May 1992)

And Then There Were 3. (mostly A collection of extra tracks and B-sides from EMG - Anthony)

(The CD cover seems to have ignored Kevin Carter with only 18 tracks being listed. - Anthony)

Newport Centre - Newport, Wales. May 31st 1996. TAPE

(Good quality tape, the song lists that comes with it are completely incorrect. - Anthony)

Leicester 11/10/94 - The Holy Bible Tour. TAPE

(Another good quality tape, I haven't a clue what track 17 is. The Faster intro breaks up a bit and so does 4st 7lbs. Again the song lists are crap. - Anthony)

Cardiff CIA 12/12/96. TAPE

(The quality of this tape is dreadful, quiet and very unaudible. - Anthony)

Newport Centre - Newport, Wales. May 31st 1996. VIDEO

Leicester 11/1094 - The holy bible tour VIDEO

Cardiff CIA 12/12/96. VIDEO

Phoenix Festival / Reading / northampton. VIDEO

(* = Promo's, + = Top Of The Pops, (L) Live Fiele 1993, (A) Acoustice songs 1994. I haven't seen this as of yet, so I cannot say what 26 is. The song list is from the cover so may not be correct. - Anthony)

Rare Live TV shows 93-97 VIDEO

(The first concert is great, however the tape for the is chewed up so I'll have to get it replaced. - Anthony)

Manic Street Preachers - Unplugged.

9X Live '97

(An excellent recording with only slight degrading part way through the concert (for a short period of time). The only fault being the removing of the ADFL Intro, which would have fitted as the CD is only just over 71 Mins long. - Anthony)

Millenium 18/19-track CD - (MSP 04 - 74.07 min.)

Tracks 1-10 New Year's Gig 2000, Tracks 11-14 Glastonbury 1999, Tracks 15-19 Early tracks (there is no track 19 on the disk, even though it is listed on the back). * are original versions, as released in the early 1990s, not from a gig.
