Lebenslauf:
After he has completed his school education in 1922, Witt did a 3 years training  in the textile industry, after wich he found a job as a clerk.
The firm were he did worked went  bankrupt, and he joined the Algemeine SS in Hagen. This was December 1931.
March 17 1933, Fritz Witt was one of the original 120 members of the Leibstandarte, whom were selected by Josef Dietrich himself. (see documents)
This was his opportunity to fulfill his wish to get an career as an officer, something that was inpossible in the regular armee, due to his education
In January 1935 Fritz Witt was transferd from the LAH to the Standarte "Deutschland" in Munich, where he was given command over
the 3 Kompanie , and as a Hauptsturmführer he participate in the Polish campaign, earning the EKII and EKI.
In October 1939 he was given the command over the first battalion of the regiment, and took part in the western campaign cwhen
May 27 1940 at Merville, his Battalion that was deployed on the right flank of the regiment, was attacked by 20 enemy tanks suported by infantry.
Because the battalions anti-tank weapons where still on the other side of the Lys-canal, and no bridges where available,
Fritz Witt led his battalion in a ferocious defence , with only light infantry weapons and handgrenades they destroyed nine enemy tanks,
for this and other actions he was awarded the Knight Cross
In October 1940 he returned to the Leibstandarte,  by then a Sturmbanführer he became the commander of the 3th battalion
As a battailon and later a regimental commander, Witt made a good account of himself in both the Balkan and Russian campaigns,
participating in many of the LAH's notable victories: the storming of the Klidi Pass (1940),the encirclement battle of Uman (1941),
the capture of Rostov (1941), and the defensive battles around Kharkov (1943).
In recognition of his leadership qualities, Fritz Witt recieved the oak leaves to the Knight's Cross on March 1,1943.
Promoted to SS-Oberführer on July 1, 1943, Witt accepted the greatest challenge of his military carreer when he took command of the
12.SS-Hitlerjugend division. He would serve as its commander until his death early in the Normandy campaign
