Jan te Wierik is a sculptor and painter well-known for his abstract figures, which he puts on paper or canvas in vivid colours. He uses mixed media, inspired by his emotions. He rarely uses a preconceived plan, because he does not want to be restrained. He wants to be free.
Te Wierik made an exception for The Hunting of the Snark and made twenty crayon drawings. Each crew member is included, as are the numerous other creatures of this poem.
The leader of the Snark Hunt is a full-colour drawing. Because of the importance of the B in the poem Jan made a drawing of this special letter in which the numbers 1 and 3 are clearly recognisable.
