November 1-2, 1962 : WANDA JACKSON continues her 4-day
Nashville session (see also October 1962) and records a further
six songs for the LP "Love Me Forever" (Capitol T 1911, May 1963).
On November 2, she also lays down two tracks that will be released
as singles: "Sympathy" (Capitol 4917, February 1963) and "Whirlpool",
which will become the B-side of her new single ("One Teardrop At A
Time", Capitol 4884) in December. Produced by Ken Nelson.
Friday, November 2, 1962 : BOBBY BARE records his next single,
"I'd Fight the World"/"Dear Wastebasket" (RCA 8146, February 1963).
These tracks will also be released on Bobby's first LP, "Detroit City and
Other Hits By Bobby Bare" (RCA LPM 2776, August 1963), along with
"Is It Wrong (For Loving You)" and "The Gods Were Angry With Me",
recorded at this same session. Produced by Chet Atkins at RCA Victor
Studio in Nashville. Backing by members of the Nashville A-team and
the Anita Kerr Singers.
November 2-3, 8-10, 1962 : JOHN LEE HOOKER (vocals / guitar) records
a live double album (20 tracks) at Sugar Hill in San Francisco. Released
as "Live At Sugar Hill" on Fantasy LP 24706, Galaxy LP 8205 and on CD

November 2, 5-8, 11, 1962 : AMOS MILBURN is now contracted to Motown
and records sixteen tracks on six different days, in Detroit. Most of these
are rerecordings of his Aladdin hits, like "Chicken Shack Boogie", "In the
Middle Of the Night", "Bewildered", "Bad, Bad Whiskey"and "One Scotch,
One Bourbon, One Beer". Six tracks were originally unissued, but five of
them are now available on the CD "The Motown Sessions, 1962-64" (1996).
The other tracks will be released on the LP "Return Of the Blues Boss"
(Motown LP 608) in 1963. Only one track is released as a single : "I'll Make
It Up To You Somehow" (Motown 1038). Personnel includes Hank Cosby on
tenor sax, Ralph Williams on guitar, George Fowler on organ and the vocal
group The Andantes. A very young unknown Stevie Wonder plays harmonica
on "Chicken Shack Boogie".
November 6, 1962 : In Los Angeles, JOHNNY OTIS records material
for two singles : "Somebody Call the Station"/"Yes" (King 5707, January
1963) and "Bye Bye Baby (I'm Leaving You)"/"The Hash" (King 5790,
September 1963). "The Hash" is an instrumental. The pianist on this
session is Ernie Freeman, further details unknown.
November 8, 1962 : In New York City, STEVE ALAIMO records the
single "Every Day I Have To Cry"/"Little Girl" (Checker 1032). It is the
last Checker single to be released in 1962, mid-December.
November 9, 1962 : Recording date of "You've Really Got A Hold On
Me" (and probably also of its flip, "Happy Landing") by THE MIRACLES
(Tamla 54073, rush released). Produced by Berry Gordy in Detroit.
Monday, November 12, 1962 : BOOKER T AND THE MG's record the
follow-up single to their big hit "Green Onions" : "Jellybread"/"Aw' Mercy"
(Stax 131, December), in Memphis. Personnel : Booker T. Jones, organ ;
Steve Cropper, guitar ; Lewis Steinberg, electric bass ; Al Jackson,
drums.
November 14-15, 1962 : A two-day Nashville session for ETTA JAMES
results in several singles : "Would It Make Any Difference To You"
(Argo 5430, December) "Pushover"/"I Can't Hold It Anymore" (Argo
5437, March 1963), "Be Honest With Me" (Argo 5445, July 1963),
"I Worry 'Bout You" (Argo 5452, November 1963), "Look Who's Blue"
(Argo 5465, mid-1964) and the LP tracks "Flight 101" and "You Better
Do Right" (Argo LP 4040, "Queen Of Soul", January 1965).
November 15, 1962 : RICK NELSON's final Imperial session yields
only one song, "I Need You", which will be used for the B-side of
"It's Up To You" (Imperial 5901, December). Personnel : Rick Nelson,
vocal / guitar ; James Burton, lead guitar ; Glen Campbell, guitar ;
Joe Osborn, bass ; Richie Frost, drums ; Ray Johnson, piano.
Produced and arranged by Jimmie Haskell at Western Recorders
in Hollywood.
November 16, 1962 : CLIFF RICHARD records his next single, with a
double A-side : "Bachelor Boy"/"The Next Time" (Columbia DB 4950,
rush-released). Also recorded is the LP track "Big News" for the album
"Summer Holiday" (Columbia SX 1472, January 1963). Produced by
Norrie Paramor at EMI's Abbey Road Studio in London.
November 20, 1962 : At Bell Sound Sudio in NYC, DEL SHANNON
records his next single, "Little Town Flirt"/"The Wamboo" (Bigtop 3131,
December). Personnel : Del Shannon, vocals / rhythm guitar ; Bucky
Pizzarelli, guitar ; Joe Benjamin, bass ; Osie Johnson, drums ; Bill
Ramal, sax, arranger ; Unidentified, piano ; The Young Sisters, vocal
chorus. Produced by Harry Balk.
November 20, 1962: In New Orleans, EARL KING records "Don't
You Lose It" and "Don't Cry My Friend" for his next single. For some
reason, the people at Imperial decide to release these tracks on
the subsidiary Post label (10004). Shortly afterwards Lew Chudd
sells Imperial to Liberty. Personnel : Earl King (vocal, guitar), Dave
Bartholomew (trumpet), Merris Bechamin (tenor sax), Willie Tee
(piano), Irving Williams (bass), Joe Butler (drums), Gerri Hall,
Benny Spellman and Bobby Laceur (vocals). Producer, as usual,

Monday, 26 November, 1962 : THE BEATLES record their second
single, "Please Please Me"/"Ask Me Why" (Parlophone R 4983,
released on January 11, 1963). Also taped are a few attempts at
"Tip Of My Tongue" (unreleased), which the group never bothered
to revive. Produced by George Martin at EMI's Abbey Road Studio
in London. Engineer : Norman Smith. First US release on Vee-Jay
498 on February 7, 1963.
November 29, 1962 : SAM COOKE is at RCA Hollywood Studio 1 to
record his next single, "Send Me Some Lovin'"/"Baby Baby Baby"
(RCA 8129, January 1963). Produced by Hugo and Luigi, conducted
by Horace Ott.
November 1962, unknown date : In Las Vegas, Nevada, BILL HALEY
and his Comets record new versions of "See You Later Alligator" and
"ABC Boogie". The latter is released on Kasey 7006 in December,
coupled with "Rock Around the Clock" by Phil Flowers. Both tracks
(Alligator and ABC) will appear on the Bill Haley LP "Rock Around the
Clock King" (Guest Star 1454) in 1963.
