Jerry Lee Lewis was asked about his famous Sun-sessions. His answer: "I played on them. What the hell else do you need to know?" Of course there were more people involved on these great recordings, apart from our famous pumping piano man.
Dik de Heer has unraveled these and many other sessions from the glorious fifties. With the help of many resources, Dik produced a monthly series, focused on the main Rock & Roll artists.
Much information has been provided by the detailed books produced by Richard Weize to accompany Bear Family's LP's and CD's; other important resources include the discographical works of Michel Ruppli, "Sun Records - The Discography" by Colin Escott & Martin Hawkins, Galen Gart's "The History Of Rhythm And Blues - volumes 1 through 9", the former R&R magazines "The Boppin' News" (Dan Coffey), "Rock And Roll Collector" (Roger Ford & Hank Taylor) and "New Kommotion" (Adam Komorowski). The extensive Country Music discographies on the internet, compiled by Frank Frantik, have been very useful too, and researcher Bill Daniels has supplied quite a number of accurate release-dates. Contributions by individual people are mentioned at the end of each monthly instalment.
