I am busy at the moment rewriting an earlier edition (1989) of a book about our Family Tree. That is why I am urgently calling everybody with this Family name to respond if they are interested. I would like to complete this second edition with more personal and actual records.

I am very interested in “Birth”, “Marriage” and “Death” announcements on prayer cards, and photo’s which I would like to place in the second edition, so the reader get a true impression of the life and well being of our Families.  I am trying to get this edition ready in about a year, say Fall of 2003, and anybody interested can then download it from the internet. It is being set setup in Microsoft  Word.

If you have any information on our Family Tree and want to send this information to me. Just click on the Blue Bar >>> beside here on the Button Form, and fill out all the information you have.

Here follows a short description of the beginnings of our Family Tree.

The origins of our Families have we found in the Netherlands in the Village of Heeten in the Province of Overijssel.

The Village of Heeten is about 12 km (9 miles) North-East of the City of Deventer, and about 6 km (4 miles) South of the Town of Raalte. The Village of Heeten is incorporated under the Municipality of Raalte.

In the Village of Heeten during the 17 Century there was a large farm with the name of “de Horle” or “de Hordel”. According to the local customs at that time most Dutch families had no family names, until the French Government under Napoleon that ruled the Netherlands told the Dutch to acquire family names.

During this time the main farmer on the Farm named “de Horle” adopted the name “Horleman” or “ Hordelman”. We found a Henrick Jacobsson Horleman, which tells you his father was Jacob. We are now on track with this family.

Following Henrick Jacobsson Horleman we find he was born in 1640, and got married in 1670. He lost his wife in 1686. His father was born in 1610.

After some investigation we found 2 names: Willem Hendricksson and Fenne Hendricksdaugter. However these two persons where married to each other. There are here two possibilities.  First, that Willem Hendricksson was the son of Henrick Jacobsson, or that Fenne Henricksdaughter was a daughter of Henrick Jacobssson. It is also possible that Willem Hendricksson was a hired hand on the farm of Henrick Jacobsson and married the bosses daughter, or vice versa.

We are in this case not sure because of inaccurate recordings. One thing we know for sure is that Willem Hendricksson Horleman is the Patriarch of our Family Tree. One of his children was Henricus Willemsson Horleman, and it is this Henricus we are following.

Henricus was baptized on 17 October 1706. He lived at the “de Horle” farm for nearly 40 years. Henricus married with Grietje Jansdaughter from “den Belt” (farm name) and in 1747 build himself a small farmstead or homestead on the land of the “de Horle” farm in the Village of Lettele and named this farmstead  “Huis in’t Veld”, meaning “house in the field”. They had 7 children. The younger 3 children with the names of Joannes (Son), Lambertus (son) and Janna (daughter) are three branches of our Family Tree, because they where baptized with the new family name of “Huis in’t Veld.

However we have now found another Family Tree of the Family “Huis in’t Veld”.

whose origin was also in the Village of Heeten.

The above mentioned Henricus and Grietje sold their farmstead named “Huis in’t Veld" in 1749

to a Mr. Hendrick Overmeen and his wife Teuntje Gerritsdaughter. (maybe their farmstead was getting to small for the 7 children) Mr. Hendrick Overmeen became to be known as Hendrick Overmeen on the Huis in ’t Veld, and still later as Hendrick Huis in’t Veld because of the farmsteads name. So we are going to place this Family Tree also in this coming soon second edition with new findings and interesting information.

Please do not hesitate and send me all the information you might have our family. Thank You.
