INSTRUCTIONS FOR PSP 7 to 9
PEARLY LACE INSETS TUBE
BEGINNER LEVEL

The Pearly Lace Insets Tube is hand-created. It will produce straight, curved or twirly inset-like patterns depending on the tool settings, by holding the left mouse button while moving the cursor.
Tube Install

Unzip the tube file to a tubes folder. For PSP 7 this will probably be Paint Shop Pro 7/Tubes. For PSP 8 and PSP 9 it will be any Picture Tubes folder you have specified (File, Preferences, File Locations, Picture Tubes).

Tube Tool Settings

The effect of a multipart revolving tube like this very much depends on the tool settings. In PSP 8 and 9 you can access the settings through View, Palettes, Tool Options. In PSP 7 it takes View, Toolbars, Tool Options Palette.

My tube is set on a continuous placement mode and an incremental selection mode because these work best.

Continuous means that the elements (there are twelve) are spaced evenly, and Incremental means that the elements are picked in the order they appear in the tube file. I call them elements, but the official term is cells.

Scale is size. You will find that the initial size of 100 for this tube is slightly sharp. I designed it for smaller sizes.

Step is what makes out the shape of this tube the most. A step is the pixel distance between placement of one element and the next. The higher the number of steps (up to a point), the more 'twirly' this tube will turn out. The lower the number, the more it will appear as a solid crochet-like edge.

I have demonstrated a few outcomes in the image above - notice that the direction in which you 'draw' the tube will have an effect as well.

Saving your Settings
presets button in tube toolbarPSP 8 and 9   If there is a particular outcome you like or will be using often, you can save the settings you used as a Preset (the tube icon in the Tool Options Palette). Click on the floppy icon and PSP will save the current settings under any name you give the preset.

Generally, the maker of a tube has already chosen the best default settings, so it might be best to use presets instead.
