Steaming from Rotterdam to Korbach Germany. A very interesting experience.
Thursday may 11 2006 was the long awaited day. At 08.00 am exactly we left Rotterdam for a 10 hours journey to Korbach Germany. Korbach is the hart of steam on saturday and sunday. The regular trains are set aside, and steam and former diesels are replacing them. This set the time back to the late sixties. One could shoot their most wanted pictures The second day we were brought with a V200 to Eisenach. From there the train was pulled with a former DR 41 engine up to Meiningen. We could visit the steam shop and eat that famous "bratwurst" and bear. Sunday we left at noon Willingen for the trip home. We arrived at Venlo late in the afternoon. From there our train was pulled by a electro locomotive due to the various mainline work. We made a very long detour throughout the southern Netherlands. Have fun with the pictures. As soon we arrived at Emmerich our BR23 left the train and the 41 360 arrived at the front. They brought a extra water tender and a mail car with is rebuild with water tanks. This car was placed between the train and the Br23 that was running as second locomotive. Unfortunately the planned BR65 was not ready because of a leaking valve. She arrived a day later at Korbach. From Kassel to Korbach did we double head the train with two BR 23 engines. This was a perfect sight seeing all the lighted coal during the dark hours. Saturday we first took a train from Willingen to Brilon Wald and back to Korbach. A BR 41 at display. BR 103 V100 Nose to Nose V200 and V100 Promotion train for the World cup Soccer showed up. It was a wonderful trip with many engines and a lot of steam and smoke. A trip to remember. Copyright © 2005 - Jos Willebrand
