Comics want to tell a story, or bring over a feeling.
Like in art or literature this is done by presenting a simplified
(abstract) reality; either everyday reality around us, or a
fictionalized, or theorized version of it. This can be a cartoon version,
or one in a realistic style. Claude Auclair chose the latter. And we
enjoyed every one of his achievements; time and again.
Born on May 1st 1943 (Labor Day, and also the day of the Celtic sun-god
Beltaine), in the Vendée, province south of Brittany. As a child he
lived with his mothers mother, Constance, in the swamps. In 1953 he
moved to Nantes, big city where his father was employed. 1958-1960
stage- later art-academy. In 1962 he entered military service (drafted).
After that Paris, and Africa. In the second half of the sixties he
started making illustrations, covers... and comics. |
