AORISTS HAVE NO PR-INDICATIVE!

IV. [-θη/θε/θει/θ-]. This is the canonic Passive aorist, even though the endings are of the Active!

[See canonical conjugation.]

Division of the different forms of the suffix:

-θη-: in all pa-ind forms except the Epic 3rd pl in –θεν, in the subj when not contracted, in all imp forms except 3rd pl, in inf;

-θε-: in the Epic pa-ind 3rd pl in θεν, in the opt, in imp 3rd pl, in all ptc forms >M&Ne, except >M sg N and M&Ne pl D;

-θει-: sometimes in subjunctives (Epic), in ptc >M sg N and >M&Ne pl D  and all >F forms;

-θ-: in normal subjunctives.

The pa-ind 3rd sg never has the ν , always ending in θη; imp 2nd sg, which should, so to speak, end in θηθι, in fact ends in θητι.

Retrieval of the lexical form: first make the pa-ind 1st sg form in –θην, then consult the table below (not forgetting the possibility that the lexical form may end in ομαι instead of ω)

-αθην < -άω

-εθην < -έω

-ηθην < -άω, -έω

-ιθην < -ίω

-λθην < -λλω

-νθην < -(ι)νω

-ρθην < -(ι)ρω, -ρδω

-σθην < -δω, -ζω, -θω, -νδω, -τω

-υθην < -ύω

-φθην < -βω, -πτω, -πω, -φω

-χθην < -γω, -κω, -ττω, -χω

-ωθην < -όω, -ώω

If this does not produce the desired result, look up the stem in the list of verb stems, where many of these aorists are noted of other than canonic duratives, e.g. ἐδείχθην of δείκνυμι.
