AORISTS HAVE NO PR-INDICATIVE!
V. [-η-/-ε-/-ει-/---].
Division of the different forms of the suffix:
-η-: in all the pa-ind forms except the Epic 3rd pl in –εν, in Epic non-contracted subjunctives, in all imp forms except the 3rd pl, in the inf;
-ε-: in the Epic pa-ind 3rd pl in –εν, in the opt, in imp 3rd pl, in all ptc forms >M&Ne except > M sg N and >M&Ne pl D ;
-ει-: in non-contracted Epic subj-forms, in ptc >M sg N and >M&Ne pl D and all >F forms;
---: in normal subjunctive forms.
Much less recognizable as a P ao than IV, especially in the subjunctive, where the suffix is absorbed into the long subj-marker, leaving no positive recognition mark. Even the stem in these forms is often not the same as in other forms of the verb: a change of vowel is a frequent added mark of this kind: so, for example, the verb στέλλω has a P ao V. ἐστάλην; in the case of the most frequent of these forms the stem may be found in the list of verb stems, but some of them are so rare that inclusion would only serve to swell the list needlessly with a lot of stems that one needs but once in a lifetime, so to speak.
There are a good many of these aorists, so much so that enumerating all of them would not be to any good purpose, but the more frequent of them follow in the table below; bold type means higher frequency:
