III. [--νυ-]. This is – in Attic – a fairly numerous category containing a few verbs of prime importance. In the conjugation there is alternation in the length of the phase marker –νυ-, but this does not result in any visible difference between the variants.

The optative is formed thematically (i.e. by sticking the thematic opt ending on to the –νυ-), as already remarked on the page for thematic duratives.

Some of the forms are collaterals of other better known verbs.
