Welcome,

The URL   www.mpegplus.org   is no longer our official URL anymore. This is because our domain expired. You can visit us now at our host Home.nl http://members.home.nl/scimitar/MPEGplus or use www.mpccentral.tk (loading time can be a little bit longer). We´re still looking for a new, real domainname, which is affordable. Please contact us for suggestions and change your bookmarks, by clicking here (Internet Explorer) or go the the new url and press CTRL-D (Netscape).

MPEGplus is a new compression method for audio encoding. It uses the file extension .Mpc  (in former days .Mp+).
Their are differences between MPEGplus and other compression methods, like mp3. The best example can be given if we take a look at the quality of the different methods. Encoding in MPEGplus leads to very high quality and it shows nearly no pre-echoes or flanging. You may say it has the best quality ever. It is stable on all kind of music genres.
There are only a few signals on which differences to the original audio signal are audible. And these are only audible, using highly proffesional audio equipment, and a pair of terriffic welltrained ears.
At this moment their are (as far as we know) 11 other competitive compression methods, but not one of them can reach the quality of MPEGplus. It's not possible to hear any quality loss, thanks to the sublime encoding-process. The format was based (read: distantly related) on mp2 technology, and new inventions by the author are implemented in the new format. It's a completely self written subband encoder, which makes use of filterbanks.
The frequency range of the MPEGplus encoder can reach up to 22kHz. Mp3 encoders mostly cut off the frequency at 16kHz. Encoding under 16kHz is more important than over 16kHz, but frequencies over 16kHz should be included, when those could be audible. The MPEGplus Psychoacoustic model..   [details]  ..decides what is audible and what´s not. MPEGplus encodes audio much more properly, even with intense orchestral and choral music.
Another advantage is it's filesize. An MPEGplus file is 5 - 10% smaller than a Mp3 file. That means faster downloading, but remember what counts is the quality!

The name MPEGplus will be replaced for a new name called MusePack.
This means that MPEGplus Central sooner or later will be changed into MusePack Central or MPC Central. At the moment we're busy with the make-over.
IMPORTANT: Our domainname expired a while ago. The URL www.mpegplus.org can no longer be used. We´ve been looking hard for a new and affordable domainname. But until now we weren´t very lucky. Until we find something else you can still reach us at the following (very long) URL: http://members.home.nl/scimitar/MPEGplus or www.mpccentral.tk (loading time can be a little bit longer).
Please change your bookmarks, see Home to do it automatically! Sorry for the inconvenience, and if you would like to suggest or donate something, please feel free to contact us.
