VOYAGERS BRASS OMNI: DISSASSEMBLY AND BATTERY INSTALLATION.

Ok people, now that you finally received your omni, it is time to take it apart, clean it, install the batteries and put it back together again.

What you need:

TAKING THE OMNI APART:

First thing you will need to do is take out the 2 screws that secure the lid to the body. They shouldn't be too tight. Remove the lid.

Next, remove the screws which secure the dial assembly to the body. I can't stress enough to be very, very carefull with these screws. They are brass and very fragile. Please note that the screws that are on the timedials cannot/should not be removed. So, only the 8 screws as pointed out in the picture need to be taken out.

Take off the dialassembly and turn it upside down. You will see the dials are being held in place by a aluminium ring with a screw. You can also see that one of the holes has an 'X' engraved underneath it. This marks the top hole (on which you also put the indicator piece). Loosen the screw and take of the aluminium ring. The dial assembly can now be taken apart for cleaning.

You should be looking at the following on your desk now:

I forgot to takes pics of the following step, but it is pretty simple. Remove the 2 screws on the back of the body to remove the beltclip. It is possible that one or both of the bolts inside the body come loose, this is not a problem. You could take out the plunger, but i do not recommend it. It can be cleaned easily with a cottonswap.

Time to polish all the brass parts........

all done??? :)

ok, take the 2 batteries out of the package. Slide the 1st in the batteryholder and then stack the second one on top of it like this. Not that the '+' is the upside of the battery. One of the LEDs should light up. Use some sticky tape and wrap it around the batteryholder, This will insulate the batteries and avoid the batteries to be drained.

put the battery holder in the corner underneath the blue switch (right) and place the globe in the body.

Put the dial assembly back together, don't overtighten the brass screw, you just need to fasten it enough to hold the aluminium in place. Look where the 'X' is and place the dial assembly on the body with the 'X' hole on the brass between the ledopenings. You can now fasten the dial assembly back to the body. Sometimes you need to wriggle it a bit to be able to align the holes right. Just take your time, don't use force. Put in the first screw and give it about 2-3 turns, then do the next and the next. Don't forget to put the indicator in place.

Once you have all 8 screws aligned correctly, gently screw them in the body. Remember, these screws are very fragile. If you feel resistence, it's better to take out the screw again and try again than to try brute force, trust me, the screw will break off..

Time to put the lid back on. Put it on top of the body and fasten the screws. Open the lid, one of the leds should be lightened up. Check the plunger to see if you can switch between the green light and the blinking red. Sometimes the plunger doesn't slide smoothly inside the body. This is because of the bolts that hold it. Just turn the plunger a little, it should do the trick.

You now should have a shiny working omni :)
