1. Honda dax replica (by Jincheng)
I first saw the Monkey replica on wednesday may 9th 2001, in Groningen at AutoSound (Phonehouse). I visited Johannes van Zonneveld (4-stroke Bike Center) in Rouveen on tuesday may 15th 2001. I visited Leertouwer in Soest and inspected some replica Monkey's and Dax's (with and without discbrake). On august 7th 2001, I called Johannes and ordered a red dax (Jincheng). I picked it up on tuesday-evening august 14th 2001 !!
And so my 4-stroke adventure part 2 started. Here's the bike:
This is what happened on august 15th, when I was driving it to work
- the front suspension wasn't very smooth (after 100km it was ok)
- the steeringlock didnt work
- the chain hit the flywheel cover
- the front fender came loose (I fastened it myself)
- gearshifting wasnt always succesfull
- de accu laadde niet op
- the speed was too low (about 56 km/hr, so I bought a 70cc cilinder for 50-head)
2. Honda monkey replica (by Jincheng)
June 2nd 2002 I visited the 'Hondadag'. There I saw some very nicely tuned monkey's. I decided to go for a monkey-MOTORCYLCE ! July 4th 2002 I did my theory-exam, August 22nd I passed the practical exam. August 26th 2002 I exchanged the Jincheng dax for a Jincheng Monkey. The dax replica had driven only 750 km.
In december 2002 I managed to get the Monkey officially licensed as a motorcycle in The Netherlands. I still have this bike (see
My Monkey).
June 15th 2003 I visited the 'Hondadag' for the second time, this time driving my Monkey. I enjoyed it very much and inspected various restored bikes.
This time a got the idea of restoring a bike myself. Ideally a CD50, or else a SS50, C50, etc. It would be nice if my wife could be driving that one next year.
3. Honda C50
The first bike I came across was a C50. A green, genuine dutch model with pedals. I bought it and picked it up, but my wife was very much against it. It had to be sold :(.
4. Honda PF50 (novio)
Then I saw a PF50 novio. This bike was already in the family and of excellent condition. My wife agreed on driving it. It was automatically geared, so it would be a piece of cake for her.
The bike didnt ride very well, so I invested in a small revision. But I still wasn't satisfied.
There should be invested some more (new tires), but the speed was in my opinion not enough to enjoy the various rides. So I sold it.
5. Honda SS50
The next bike I bought was a SS50. It took me half a year for restauration, but the result is quite rewarding. I stil have this bike and drove a couple of Hondadays with it. See for yourself in
My SS50.
6. Honda CF50 (chaly)
I enjoyed restoring much, and I was still looking for a bike for my wife. I came across a nice yellow Chaly. I found it with only 4850 km and including paperwork ('Betriebserlaubnis'), 3 original keys, toolset, exhaust heatshield, new tires and new battery. The only thing missing was one of the 'chaly' mark on one side. The seat is a little torn on the right and the steering stem is a little bent. A wonderfull bike in original paintwork with only some surfice rust here and there. It must be cleaned up a bit, new oil, small checkup, new fuel and then ... enjoy !.
It was at first meant for my wife to ride. But I found out that a moped was a serious option to bring me to work and back. This chaly wasn't good enough to face 40 km per day. I had to invest in the engine, the front suspension and the brakes. I didn't need a calculator to come to the conclusion that a new bike would give much more comfort for a lower price. This is why I deciced to put the chaly to sale.
7. Kymco Activ 50
Like the monkey this isn't a Honda, but a Honda replica. This model lookes like the models 'Dream' and 'Wave' from Honda Thailand. It is cheap, legal, has comfortable 17" wheels, hydraulic front suspension, disk brake, etc. I used this bike for two years to drive to my work and back. It took me some time before I was completely satisfied. I removed the kathalysator, the forced air, replaced the cilinder head and carburettor. Still no good. I switched to a Jincheng engine. After some kilometers to another Jincheng engine, this time with hand clutch. I fitted 70cc and finally enjoyed it.
When I changed jobs at another firm, it was too far to drive per bike, so I sold the Kymco. This was in February 2007.
8. Honda monkey replica (by Jincheng)
After having sold the Kymco, I was still looking around for another bike. In 2 years my daughter will have reached the age of 12. And it would be nice to have a spare bike so someone could join me for the Hondadag or some other tour with Honda(like) 4-stroke mopeds.
On Tuesday, June 12th of 2007, I bought my second Monkey (replica). This one has a red tank, hand clutch and hydraulic frontsuspension with disc brake. The previous owner drove 69 km with it and left it original, except for the transfers.
After receiving a license from the RDW, I will change the tyres for Heidenau tyres and perhaps widen the hole in the intake and fit a larger front sprocket.
More to be seen of this bike
