Buffalo Express
Af ter having converted a lot of ships into livestock carriers Vroon b. v. decided to order two
newbuilding vessels especially designed for the transport of live animals. Therefore two vessels
were ordered from shipyard J .W. Cook and Co. of Wivenhoe
(U.K.). The first vessel, yardnumber 1469, was delivered
to Vroon during the summer of 1983. The ship, called Buffalo Express, was used for the
transport of live animals from Ireland to Egypt. Because the market was asking for bigger
ships it was decided to increase
the vessels capacity, and in December 1983 she went to Scheepswerf Welgelegen in Harlingen
(the Netherlands) in order to be extended by 14.80 metres with a midbody section.
Af ter being lengthened the Buffalo Express took a load of cattle from Ireland to Egypt and
from there she went to Australia. Since that time the ship has been trading out of Australia
to various countries in
Asia such as Indonesia, the Philippines, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia.
Zebu Express
This vessel was delivered by her builders (J .W. Cook and Co. of Wivenhoe) to her owners in February
1984. After delivery the Zebu Express went directly to Harlingen where she was extended with a section
of 14,80 metres. The original builders of the vessel could not perform this lengthening, as the yard
could not accommodate such a large ship. Like her sister-vessel the Zebu Express went to Australia in
1984 and until now she has been trading out of this country to various ports in Indonesia, the
Philippines, Japan, Mauritius, Singapore and Malaysia.
Specifications are the same as Buffalo Express.
