Maginoo Express
During the spring of 1979 this vessel, built as yard number 885 at the Cockerill Yard at Antwerp was
ready for delivery. Because the company which first ordered the vessel was not able to take her
over the yard was forced to trade the vessel herself. Therefore a Belgian manager was found, who traded the ship
under the name she already had at the moment of launching: Balder Antwerpen.
At the end of 1984 the managers could no longer fulfil their financial obligations. For that reason the vessel was
arrested and put up for sale at public auction. At the auction a company acting on behalf of Vroon was the
highest bidder so the vessel was sold to them.
The commercial management of the vessel was put into the hands of the chartering department of Vroon in Breskens
and af ter being renamed Maginoo Express the vessel went under Philippine registry.
In September 1985 the vesse1 was sold to Yugos1av owners who ca1led her Tara. Because of the warlike situation in
the ex- Yugoslav Republic this company was forced to sell the ship to a Maltese subsidiary in 1992.
As Rio G with Valletta as
homeport the vessel is still trading.
Magiting Express
Still trading under the name of Moa, registered in Valletta this vessel, a sistership of the previous
one, was also built by Cockerill Yard at Antwerp. Because the company which originally ordered the ship was
not able to take delivery, she went the same way
as her sister. The yard put the management in the hands of a Belgian shipmanager, who traded her under
Belgian flag with Antwerp as port of registry.
In 1984 the manager cou1d not go on with the management of the Balder Gent so the vesse1 was seized and sold
at auction.
Af ter the takeover by Vroon it was discovered that during the 1ayup period the unit sustained considerab1e
frost damage. For that reason the ship had to be towed from Antwerp to Plushing in order to undergo extensive
repairs.
Like her sistervessel the Magiting Express was registered in Manila, whilst the commercial management remained
with Vroon Chartering. As y ou cao guess she was sold in 1985 to a Yugoslaviao compaoy, which called her Virpazar.
The situation in their country forced the owners to flag the ship out.
