Introduction

The Teeninga/Teninga familybook describes the 'Parenteel of Jacob Geerts and Etje Pieters'. This couple is the first in the family line who can be traced with absolute certainty back to the Te(e)ninga Tribe. Their grandson Pieter Jacobs (1751-1819), third in the ancestral line-up; his wife Jantje Derks (1764-1835) and their son Arjen Pieters (1790-1835) who were the first to be known by the Teeninga family name. Pieter Jacobs was over sixty years old when he had to start remembering to add that eight-letter surname to his signature!
