Cretaceous Echinoids from the Netherlands

In this section you will find a small catalog of echinoids which have been found in the upper part of the Maastrichtian in the area around Maastricht. This city gave it's name to the "Maastrichtian" and is therefor a "type locality". This site is situated in the quarry of the ENCI, south of Maastricht. These echinoids are collected by numerous people without there help there would have been nothing to show for on these pages.

Special thanks go out to Dr. J. Jagt, Curator of the Natural History Museum in Maastricht, who gave me kind permission to use the pictures from his thesis: "Late Cretaceous-Early Palaeogene echinoderms and the K/T boundary in the southeast Netherlands and northeast Belgium, Scripta Geologica 121, Part 4 Echinoids, 2000. A special paper issued by Naturalis, the National Museum of Natural History in the Netherlands. Also thanks to Professor S. K. Donovan, Curator Mesozoic invertebrates of the Natural History Museum Naturalis in Leiden, the Netherlands, who gave kind permission to use the pictures in the "Special Paper" mentioned above. Also special thanks to Mr. R. van der Ham, who gave me kind permission to use scanned copies of several articles and apers he wrote about echinoids from the Cretaceous and Tertiairy of the South of the Netherlands and surrounding areas.

Therefore no pictures may be used, copied or otherwise distributed without permission of Naturalis NHM. in Leiden and or without permission of Dr. J. Jagt and Mr. R. van der Ham.

If you want to know something about an echinoid from the Cretaceous of Holland and surrounding areas, just click on a letter in the alphabet above. if you see no names, there are none beginning with that letter.
