About log-lang

  Welcome to my log-lang pages.

Log-lang (logical language*) is a constructed language (yet to be created) .
Log-lang has one single and unique mission:

Let computers speak!

The dream is to bring humans and computers on speaking terms,
so:
1) you and I will speak to the thing to ask it questions or give it orders,
2) it will understand what we are saying and comply to our wishes,
3) it will report the results of its efforts by speaking.

To enable this conversation it and we will use a language that:
- we can easily comprehend, learn and speak,
- for it (and us), is clear and unambiguous,
- for us, is a joy to listen to.

Many will say that this goal is beyond ambitious, it's hubris. They are right! After almost 50 years of trying, linguist are still not capable of defining the rules of natural language in such a way, that computer scientists can create programs that can process language. Natural grown languages are simply to complex

Our only hope is, to cheat!

We must think outside the box, and turn the problem on its head. Let us not create programs that can do languages. Let us create a language that can be done by programs. Keep it simple, and make it beautiful!

      * log-lang is just a working title. The final language probably will be called differently (Linga de Arte e Logica, Angelica, SPQR, Roma Nova, Franglais, Linga Franka, or ...).

** To be more precise -and unkind-; linguistic theories that explain language to the student, presuppose that he/she already has a thorough understanding of at least one language. Linguist are yet not capable of explaining language without relying on this understanding. Hence, to learn what language is, you already have to know it. Linguist do not understand language well enough to explain it to an -innocently ignorant- computer.

*** We need not construct our new language from scratch. Among the many existing con-langs there are two that look very promising: Lingua Franca Nova (LFN) and Loglan/Lojban. ( more about LFN and loglan )
