UPSIDE
THE GENEALOGICAL RESEARCH

It all started with family pictures, devotional pictures, marriage certificates of parents and great parents.
Actually, I only wanted to know who were all these people who were on those photos. I then started to make a diagram about uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces. Among the different documents that I have, I found a copy of a funeral record established in 1884. This document enabled me to find the traces of my great parents in the archives of the town of Zevenbergen. I have consulted different archives in the region of Brabant (The Netherlands) and in Belgium and I have also corresponded with a French Archive-Library. It seemed to be a very attractive occupation; it actually generated more facts then I could ever have expected.
Picture of a family group with, in the center, my grandfather Christiaan Jansen, and sitting in front of him his wife Maria Aloysia Luijsterborg. Up to now more than 2400 homonyms and their wifes have been brought together. All together they constitute 10 generations. I have received recent facts from different sources. Among them some from (distant) family-members whom I contacted by telephone, visited or to whom I wrote by means of e-mail.
I have a big collection of birth, marriage and funeral announcements, different records and documents and family pictures. Many birth, marriage and funeral records have been copied and a real family archive-file now exists. Thanks to the collaboration of family members of the different lineages, it is now possible to work out the history of the family. As soon as the research is completed, I will evaluate the possibilities of publishing a book. Considering all the positive reactions that I have received, I think that there is a real interest in such an idea.

JANSE ? JANSEN ? JANSSEN ? JANSSENS ? Do they all belong to the same family ?

The surname JANSEN (and its variants) is a frequent name in the Netherlands, Belgium and many other countries. My investigation concerns the JANSEN family that has its origin in the Kempen region in North Brabant. Picture of the marriage of Wilhelmus Jansen with Leonia de Lie in Putte, 1921. In the center the parents of the couple: Christiaan Jansen and Marie Hoendervangers The oldest ancestor I have found so far was born in Hoogeloon. When he felt ready to become a family man, he settled in the region of Hoogeloon, in Casteren. He got married and founded a family. He owned a farm and some farming-land. One of his sons left the area and settled in PUTTE, in West Brabant. There, the family extended into 4 branches.
The first branch is the one of the eldest son, Antonius Jansen, who married Anna SILLES. They got 6 children. Many of their descendants settled in Belgium. The second branch is from Adrianus, who married (1)Adriana VAN GEEL and (2)Geertruij KOETSENRUIJTER. They got 5 children. This second branch has been found recently and I'm still searching for all the descendents.
The third branch is from Wilhelmus, who married Adriana SCHIJVENAARS. Their two sons got many children. The fourth branch is the branch of the youngest son, Cornelius, who married Cornelia BURON. Their 7 children were born in Nieuw-Vossemeer. Cornelius Jansen was my greatfather.
A remarquable fact is that the profession of county constable (a precursor of the state and parish police) often recurred in the family.

THE NAMES OF 4 JANSEN GENERATIONS You can find the names of the first four JANSEN generations on a separate page. Only the most important facts are mentioned here so that the general be clear.
An alphabetical list of names has been introduced in a table on the left side of the page where one can choose a defenite name. When you get into it, you will discover the data concerning the defenite person on the right side in top of the page.
In order to respect life privacy, I have not included the names of the later generations.

May be you are related to the JANSEN family or do you wish to know some more about this family? Do you have complementary information concerning the history of this family?
Please put your message in the Guestbook. I'll answer you soon. I thank you in advance!
