Guitarist and singer/songwriter Dave Van Ronk was born june 30 1936 in Brooklyn, New York. In the early fifties he settled in Greenwich Village, New York. He made his debut with the album "Ballads, Blues and a Spiritual" in 1959. Van Ronk was the 'godfather' of the Greenwich village scene, among people like Bob Dylan, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Joni Mitchell and Tom Paxton.
For a brief time in the mid sixties he played in the rockband ‘the Hudson Dusters’. Van Ronk was a very productive musician and left many albums, most of them solo en acoustic, where you can here his excelent guitartechnic.
"Black Mountain Blues" (1959), "Dave Van Ronk, Folksinger" (1967), "Inside Dave Van Ronk" (1969), "Sunday Street" (1976), "Peter & the Wolf" (1990) and the compilation-album "Folkways Years (1959-1961)" (1991) probably represent the best of his work. Dave Van Ronk died february 10 2002 te New York.

New York. Begin vijftiger jaren vestigde hij zich in de New Yorkse wijk Greenwich
Village. Hij maakte zijn debuut met het album "Ballads, Blues and a Spiritual" in 1959.
Van Ronk was zo'n beetje de 'godfather' van de Greenwich village scene, waarvan
mensen als Bob Dylan, Ramblin' Jack Elliot, Joni Mitchell en Tom Paxton deel uit maakten.
Midden zestiger jaren formeerde hij voor korte tijd de rockband de Hudson Dusters.
Van Ronk was een zeer productief muzikant en heeft veel albums nagelaten,
waarvan de meeste solo en akoestisch, die zijn uitmuntende gitaartechniek laten horen.
